College Intern - h-BN Thin Films

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions for semiconductors and advanced displays, is offering a full-time college internship in Singapore. The project focuses on hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), an emerging dielectric material with good thermal stability and electrical resistivity, used as a thermal interface material for advanced semiconductor packaging. The intern will work on the development and characterization of PECVD-grown h-BN thin films.

Key responsibilities

• Complete about one month of structured laboratory training, gaining hands-on exposure to thin-film characterization and processing tools such as FTIR, SEM, ellipsometry, XPS, electrical measurement tools and the PECVD system.
• Under the guidance of senior researchers, support thin-film growth, process monitoring and material characterization of h-BN films.
• Summarize the key findings in a scientific report and present the results to the project team.

Required profile

• Basic knowledge of materials science, thin films and semiconductor processing.
• Basic understanding of dielectric materials and electrical characterization.
• Ability to summarize experimental results in written reports and presentations.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and data analysis.
• Experience in thin-film deposition, semiconductor materials characterization, data analysis and technical communication in an industrial R&D environment.
