Commercial Director, I+E, Asia

About the role

The Commercial Director provides commercial leadership to drive sustainable growth, disciplined work winning and profitable project delivery for the SJ Group across Asia. The role partners with sector leaders, project directors and managers to secure the right work on the right terms while managing commercial risk in line with the group’s strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Shape commercial direction and ensure portfolio strategy aligns with organisational objectives and long‑term value creation.
• Oversee bid and pursuit governance, ensuring due diligence, pricing discipline and risk management.
• Establish and maintain commercial governance frameworks that enable compliant and effective project execution.
• Lead development, review and negotiation of contracts to optimise risk allocation and protect commercial interests.
• Monitor project and portfolio performance, resolve issues early and drive revenue, margin and cash outcomes.
• Build commercial capability across teams through tools, training, coaching and frameworks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Law or related field; MBA or similar postgraduate qualification is a plus.
• 10‑15 years of experience in commercial management, contract management, bid governance or portfolio oversight within infrastructure, engineering or professional services.
• Proven experience leading commercial strategy and governance at project and portfolio levels.
• Strong track record in overseeing bids, commercial due diligence, pricing strategy and risk assessment.
• Extensive experience in contract drafting, review and negotiation with solid understanding of risk allocation.
• Demonstrated ability to drive financial performance, including revenue growth, margin optimisation and cash flow management.
