Compliance Officer – KYC & Transactional Compliance

About the role

We are seeking a Compliance Officer to support a global commodities trading business in Singapore. The role sits close to the trading desks and provides hands‑on, commercially focused KYC and compliance support across the firm’s activities in the region.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out KYC and risk‑based due diligence on new and existing counterparties in line with the Global KYC Policy.
• Conduct sanctions, adverse media, PEP and reputational screening and escalate true matches.
• Maintain accurate, audit‑defensible KYC records and support the counterparty database.
• Act as the day‑to‑day compliance contact for trading desks, providing real‑time advice on market conduct, sanctions and trade controls.
• Advise on UK, EU, US and Singapore sanctions regimes relevant to commodity trading.
• Assist with regulator and bank information requests and enhanced due‑diligence queries.
• Support the Head of Compliance on projects and implementation of regulatory‑driven changes.

Required profile

• University degree in law or a relevant discipline.
• At least 5 years of compliance experience within an oil major or commodity trading house.
• Strong knowledge of AML, KYC and sanctions requirements for APAC and global counterparties.
• Excellent analytical ability, attention to detail and a process‑driven approach.
• Sound judgement and the capacity to deliver clear, defensible advice in time‑critical situations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to engage directly with traders and senior stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with compliance screening software.
