Customer Engineer (Field Service Engineer)

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions for semiconductors and advanced displays, is hiring a Customer Engineer (Field Service Engineer) in Singapore. As the direct liaison with customers, you collaborate on installing, maintaining and upgrading equipment, using digital analytics for troubleshooting and applying basic diagnostic techniques. The role is full-time, with travel of about 10% of the time.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Senior Field Service Engineers on installing, maintaining and upgrading customer equipment
• Use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques, with guidance from seniors
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems (training provided)
• Coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service
• Work independently with customers on issues and escalations
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience or trade certification
• 1-2 years of experience in customer/field service support or a related technical field; 2-4 years preferred
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a passport if travel is required
• Able to meet on-site requirements, including safety, environmental guidelines and COVID-19 protocols
• Physical demands: extensive walking, standing, working in tight spaces, lifting up to 35 lbs, and working in a clean room with PPE such as coveralls, hoods, boots, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons and face shields

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics
• Diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges
• Basic mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum or thermodynamics
• Familiarity with hand tools and digital multimeters
• Effective written and verbal communication
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
