Engineering Lead / Manager, KYC

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring an Engineering Lead / Manager for its KYC team in Singapore. The Risk Platform builds the decisioning infrastructure that protects businesses and decides in milliseconds whether a signup is real, a payment is safe or a login is genuine, using streaming pipelines, graph databases, ML models and LLM agents. The role leads the engineering direction of KYC systems that make user onboarding safer, faster and more efficient at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engineering direction for KYC systems that make user onboarding safer, faster and more efficient at scale.
• Build and improve automation and workflow systems that streamline registration approval and reduce manual effort for internal operations teams.
• Develop AI- and data-driven solutions to identify user risk and help prevent fraudulent or malicious activity.
• Partner with Product, Operations, Compliance and Engineering to deliver effective technical solutions.
• Raise the bar on architecture, reliability, performance and engineering quality while mentoring and supporting the growth of engineers on the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong ability to understand complex business processes quickly and turn them into technical solutions.
• Strong organisational and communication skills, with cross-team collaboration experience.
• Self-driven, proactive, and able to mentor or guide engineers as the team grows.
• Comfortable owning the roadmap, making decisions with incomplete information and working closely with colleagues across countries and time zones, including occasional hour adjustments; willing to be in the office five days a week.

Required skills

• Backend or frontend development with Kotlin, Java, React or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience building scalable, robust automation or workflow systems.
• Experience in architectural discussions, code reviews, system reliability, performance and scalability.
• Preferred: experience leading or mentoring engineers, applying AI or machine learning to automation or risk detection, cloud automation tools such as AWS, GCP, Kubernetes or CI/CD pipelines, fintech or payments experience, and familiarity with compliance, risk control or user onboarding.
