Engineering Manager, Financial Platform

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring an Engineering Manager for its Financial Platform team in Singapore. The team builds the systems that underpin Airwallex's financial integrity and global expansion, managing real-time balances, accounting for every transaction and executing global settlements. You will lead a team of software engineers and drive complex engineering projects from design through production.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers in a supportive, high-performance environment.
• Drive delivery of complex engineering projects from design through production, balancing quality, timelines and business objectives.
• Partner with Finance and product teams across Payments, GTPN, Issuing, FX and Billing to turn accounting requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Provide technical direction on backend engineering practices, system architecture, security, scalability and data integrity.
• Improve engineering processes and delivery outcomes through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Strengthen collaboration between Engineering and Finance by explaining technical and financial concepts to varied audiences.
• Deliver secure, compliant and resilient financial systems.

Required profile

• Experience leading and mentoring a team of software engineers.
• Experience planning and delivering complex engineering projects from design through production.
• Track record of partnering with cross-functional stakeholders including Finance, Product and Engineering.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, scalability, security and data integrity.
• Experience making data-driven decisions and improving engineering processes.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
• Preferred: fintech, payments, accounting or regulated industry background; accrual-based accounting knowledge; experience with ledger, reconciliation, treasury, wallet, settlement or financial reporting systems; experience with globally distributed teams.

Required skills

• Strong backend engineering experience, with proficiency in Java or Kotlin.
