Engineering Manager II, Payments

About the role

Grab Financial Group (GrabFin) is building the future of payments in Southeast Asia. As Engineering Manager II, Payments, you will lead an engineering team of software engineers and QAs (SET) that designs, builds and operates the Central Reconciliation Platform for Grab's fintech foundations. The role reports to a Senior Engineering Manager and is based onsite at the Grab Singapore office in One-North, with a 5-day in-office week.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of product and engineering strategy and roadmap, aligned with business goals and priorities, and drive cycle planning and team OKRs.
• Build reusable, scalable capabilities that serve multiple markets ("platformization") and own operational excellence and platform efficiency.
• Take part in mandatory on-call rotations.
• Improve engineering standards, culture and the software development lifecycle, focusing on productivity, less technical debt and better processes.
• Work with product managers, designers, operations and business stakeholders to define clear objectives, deliverables and success metrics.
• Provide technical guidance, take part in design and code reviews, and apply hands-on coding to scalable, secure, testable and maintainable systems.
• Recruit, mentor and retain engineers, offering clear growth pathways and a culture of continuous learning.

Required profile

• Solid foundation in computer science, with expertise in algorithms, data structures and software engineering principles.
• At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on coding and scalable architectures.
• 3+ years managing teams of 8+ engineers, with hands-on backend (Golang) or web development skills.
• Experience turning business models or product specs into technical architectures that support growth, monetization and compliance.
• Ability to implement observability, SLAs, security, data governance and regulatory reporting best practices.
• Experience managing diverse teams, coaching others, and collaborating with global teams and stakeholders across cultures and regions.

Required skills

• Backend (Golang) or web development, microservices, and familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Advanced data technologies such as OLAP, OLTP, MPP and streaming.
• Payments domain knowledge: gateway, acquirer, fund flows, reconciliation and settlement.
• Payment technology stacks: backend architecture, integrations, tokenization, encryption, real-time and offline transaction processing.
