Head of Onboarding & FinCrime Operations

About the role

Airwallex, an AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Head of Onboarding and FinCrime Operations. The role leads a global team responsible for KYC operations, name screening and transaction monitoring, which is the largest part of the Operations division and acts as a first line of defence against financial crime. It works closely with 2LOD Financial Crime Compliance, Risk Product and Commercial leaders. The role is based in either London or Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Own the vision, strategy and execution for Onboarding and FinCrime Operations
• Build, lead and develop a globally distributed team, managing capacity to reflect business growth
• Own the location and resourcing strategy, solving for 24/7 coverage, customer experience and cost efficiency
• Create a repeatable, scalable operating rhythm with clear OKRs and take a data-driven approach to performance management
• Balance risk, customer experience and commercial impact, ensuring timely, high-quality decisions and communications
• Improve procedures, playbooks and control frameworks in line with Airwallex's financial crime and fraud policies, and ensure consistent, high-quality documentation
• Lead the AI transformation of the Onboarding and FinCrime Operations teams

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in large-scale, multi-jurisdiction operations within a regulated financial-services or payments/fintech business
• Proven track record of scaling FinCrime and/or Onboarding Operations across products and geographies
• Demonstrated delivery of automation/AI-led transformation in operations, or clear strategic and technical fluency to lead it
• Commercial and analytical judgement, including unit economics, scalability and ROI
• Experience at the Operations-Product-Risk intersection and managing outsourced, BPO or offshore capacity at scale
• Preferred: cross-border payments, API-first products, tooling and rule evolution with Risk Product and Data teams, AI transformation experience, consulting or investor background, and certifications such as CAMS, ICA or ACAMs
