Head of Tax Structuring – APAC (Singapore/Hong Kong/Sydney)

About the role

Nuveen Real Estate is seeking a senior tax professional to lead the structuring of real estate funds and transactions across the APAC region. The role will provide high‑level operational tax support to the APAC Fund Finance team and work closely with investors, legal, and finance partners.

Key responsibilities

• Handle all tax aspects of direct and indirect real estate transactions for APAC funds, working with tax advisors to design optimal investment structures.
• Support tax structuring of new APAC real estate funds and restructuring of existing funds, aligning with commercial and investor requirements.
• Manage tax queries from investors, including analysis of Australian stamp duty, WUT, MIT, and Singapore, Luxembourg, and US tax perspectives.
• Monitor qualifying conditions and thresholds for applicable tax regimes and assess legislative changes impacting investments.
• Ensure internal governance processes support the tax structures of APAC funds.
• Manage tax controversies and audits with relevant tax authorities.
• Assist the investment team on transaction tax matters and support day‑to‑day operational tax compliance for the finance team.
• Collaborate with internal legal, external law firms, company secretaries, and tax consultancies.
• Provide product‑specific tax guidance to the sales team.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree; relevant tax, legal or accounting qualifications are preferred.
• Significant experience in a tax advisory firm, tax law firm, or real‑estate fund management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of national and international tax and investment tax law.
