Instrument Technician – Sterile Processing

About the role

The Instrument Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient processing of sterile and reusable surgical instruments and equipment. You will ensure the Theatre Sterile Supplies Unit (TSSU) operates smoothly, supporting operating theatres, procedural rooms and inpatient wards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, sort, decontaminate, inspect, pack, sterilise, store and distribute surgical items daily.
• Operate and maintain washer‑disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers and sterilisers, including test indicator evaluation.
• Perform inventory of sterile linen and consumables and issue supplies to all supporting areas.
• Track preventive maintenance for all equipment and report defects for repair or replacement.
• Liaise with OT nurses to confirm consignment sets required for procedures.
• Supervise and guide junior staff, ensuring adherence to standards and team dynamics.
• Participate in clinical and service quality activities and maintain instrument tracking data.

Required profile

• Diploma in Engineering or related technical field; WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare Support (Sterilisation Services) is an advantage.
• At least one year of experience in a CSSD/TSSU environment.
• Good interpersonal and supervisory skills with a solid command of written English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
