Java Backend Developer (12-Month Contract)

About the role

Julius Baer is seeking a highly skilled Java Backend Developer to join its team and help build, maintain and enhance its financial platforms and applications, with a focus on performance, security and scalability. The role is a 12-month contract filled through an external agency payroll provider.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement software solutions for financial products and services with cross-functional teams
• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java, Spring and Spring Boot, optimising server-side performance and ensuring data integrity and security
• Integrate financial systems and third-party services so data flows smoothly between them
• Write clean, maintainable code following best practices, including code reviews, testing and CI/CD
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues across the stack in development and production environments
• Work with product managers, designers and other stakeholders to turn requirements into technical specifications
• Act with honesty, integrity, due care, fair dealing, conflict-of-interest management, risk awareness and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Required profile

• Higher education and professional background, ideally at least 5 years of software development experience including as a backend developer
• Relevant experience in the financial industry is preferable
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects and work in an agile environment
• Willingness to work in a global team with members in Singapore and Switzerland
• Very good written and spoken English

Required skills

• Core Java, including collections, JSON, JDBC and Maven
• Spring Framework, including Spring Boot, JDBC templates, JPA, messaging and JMS
• Basic understanding of Unix and bash scripting
• Good code review skills
