Junior Medical Technologist, Paediatrics

About the role

The National University Health System (NUHS) is hiring a Junior Medical Technologist for its paediatrics laboratory. You will deliver patient services in your work area in a personalised, specialised and cost-effective way, following hospital policies, procedures and standards, and provide laboratory support for lung function tests, allergy tests and sleep monitoring studies.

Key responsibilities

• Cooperate with doctors and other healthcare providers and ensure scheduled procedures are performed well.
• Perform pulmonary function tests (spirometry, NIOX-ENO, static lung volumes, impulse oscillometry, diffusion capacity, bronchial provocation tests) and sweat testing, and allergy tests as requested by clinicians.
• Monitor and optimise use of procedure rooms and coordinate urgent requests across departments, clinics and wards.
• Report preliminary test results, record them in the computer system and give reports to the doctor-in-charge for vetting.
• Maintain equipment, instruments and inventories, check and calibrate devices, and manage stock and consumables.
• Procure skin prick extracts, lancets and other equipment in a timely manner.
• Supervise and coach staff, develop and evaluate quality standards for clinical procedures, and manage patient feedback and enquiries.
• Handle telephone enquiries, assist with patient registration and appointments, attend in-service courses, and keep a statistical report of lab output.

Required profile

• Diploma in Medical Science / Biotechnology.
• 2-3 years of related work experience in clinical service preferred.
• Good computer literacy, interpersonal and communication skills, and strong organisational and time management skills.
• Willingness to learn, initiative, self-motivation and a keen interest in working with children in a clinical environment.
