Junior Quantitative Researcher – Crypto

About the role

BlockTech is an algorithmic trading firm focused on cryptocurrency derivatives and spot markets, trading 24/7. It is looking for a Quantitative Researcher with a strong machine learning toolkit to turn research ideas into live trading strategies. The role sits on the trading floor alongside Quantitative Traders and Quantitative Analysts.

Key responsibilities

• Own research ideas end-to-end: from hypothesis and dataset construction, through feature engineering, model training and backtesting, to live deployment, monitoring and iteration.
• Work with traders to turn research insights into systematic trading strategies.
• Build and deploy models for price prediction, signal generation, execution and anomaly detection across crypto derivatives and spot markets.
• Help build trading, backtesting and research infrastructure with engineers so ideas move to production quickly and safely.
• Monitor live models, diagnose decay and iterate on what is shipped.

Required profile

• Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Econometrics, ML/AI or similar), typically a PhD or MSc with strong research experience.
• Intuitive grasp of overfitting, generalisation, validation design and feature engineering.
• Solid software engineering instincts and clear written and verbal English.
• Curious about financial markets and microstructure; prior finance experience is welcome but not required.

Required skills

• Fluent Python and the modern ML stack (PyTorch and/or TensorFlow, scikit-learn, NumPy, pandas).
• Nice to have: hands-on experience building and deploying ML models, especially on time-series, forecasting or anomaly detection problems, and familiarity with crypto markets, derivatives pricing or HFT data.
