Manager, Research and Statistics Unit

About the role

The Research and Statistics Unit (RSU) carries out economic research and data analytics to deepen understanding of Singapore's digital economy and inform IMDA's strategy and policy development. It supports the policy divisions' need for data-driven insights. The role suits an intellectually curious, independent researcher who can own research projects from framing questions and designing them, through quantitative analysis, to communicating insights.

Key responsibilities

• Lead research and analytical projects on current and emerging issues in Singapore's digital economy and evaluate the economic and social impact of IMDA's policies.
• Work with policy divisions to understand their objectives, identify research opportunities and refine analytical problem statements.
• Apply rigorous quantitative methods, including econometric and data science techniques, to administrative, survey and unconventional datasets.
• Translate complex analysis into clear narratives for internal and external audiences.
• Contribute to strengthening research standards and analytical capabilities across the organisation.

Required profile

• Background in Economics, Data Science or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• 4-8 years of experience in economic research, quantitative policy research or applied data analytics.
• Ability to formulate research questions independently, apply analytical frameworks and choose appropriate quantitative methods.
• Ability to work across disciplines and engage stakeholders to shape research questions and deliver policy-relevant findings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Required skills

• Statistical software and programming such as Python and R.
• Data visualisation tools such as Tableau.
