Manufacturing Engineer (Medical Devices)

About the role

Illumina is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer (Internal title: Product Engineer 2) to support product lifecycle activities, including new product introduction, product transfer and ongoing manufacturing operations. The role ensures product quality, yield and compliance through engineering evaluation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement, working across functions to move products smoothly from design to production.

Key responsibilities

• Support and drive product transfer into manufacturing
• Perform data trending and analysis
• Apply FMEA, DOE and statistical analysis to optimise quality and reduce costs
• Drive process improvements, cost reduction and product sustaining activities
• Manage Engineering Change Requests and Notifications, including updates to work instructions and test requirements
• Support documentation such as engineering drawings, BOMs, test reports, assembly procedures and validation plans
• Take part in continuous improvement and operational excellence programmes
• For Process Engineering: lead small-scale continuous improvement projects, run cycle time studies and line balancing, develop data collection tools and support manufacturing engineers in implementing supervisory control solutions

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related experience, or an advanced degree without experience, or equivalent work experience
• Experience in Lean Kaizen events and process improvement
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Frequent cross-functional collaboration and occasional travel to other sites

Required skills

• Strong process engineering and data analysis skills
• Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
• Experience in an FDA/ISO 13485 environment is a plus
• Familiarity with SAP ERP is a plus
