Manufacturing Equipment Engineer 2 (Analytical QC & Formulation)

About the role

Illumina is hiring a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer 2 for its high-volume consumables production environment. The engineer provides technical leadership in keeping smart manufacturing equipment running, defines and carries out preventive maintenance on optical, mechanical, electrical and fluidics systems, trains and mentors technicians and Engineer I team members, and leads continuous improvement and incident investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Follow cGMP, quality, safety and work instruction requirements, and ensure employees comply with them
• Perform preventive maintenance and implement repairs on equipment and systems with broad supervision
• Update critical spare parts in SAP and maintain safety stock
• Lead improvement initiatives, coach team members on continuous improvement (e.g. 6S), and manage work instructions for each maintenance process
• Lead incident investigations and write reports, and guide team members
• Mentor a group of team members to meet production KPIs and corporate targets, and support the shift to meet daily production targets
• Develop OJT training programmes for technicians and guide them on troubleshooting PLC and automation equipment
• Analyse operational data to improve equipment efficiency and look for ways to automate manual processes with automation experts

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or Mechatronics or a related field
• 2+ years of experience for a bachelor's degree or 8+ years for a diploma holder in a manufacturing/production environment
• Experience in a GMP-controlled manufacturing environment
• Good project management skills, discipline, integrity and attention to detail
• Able to work in noisy and chemical environments with PPE, lift up to 15 kg, and rotate between day and night shifts (12-hour shifts, monthly rotation)

Required skills

• Advanced understanding of electrical, electronics, mechanical and pneumatic systems
• Troubleshooting analytical instruments (UPLC, microplate readers, qPCR), liquid handler automation and lab equipment (plate centrifuges, thermomixers, biosafety cabinets)
• HMI process control and PLC troubleshooting (Beckhoff or Allen Bradley); designing automatic control systems and engineering drawings are highly advantageous
