Mechanical Engineer – Semiconductor Equipment

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer at Applied Materials you will apply your strong foundation in physics, mathematics and materials science to solve mechanical challenges, design custom tooling and support the handling, assembly and disassembly of components throughout the product life‑cycle of semiconductor equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engineering analysis, troubleshooting and testing of PECVD chambers, including gas flow, pressure control, thermal performance and RF/plasma behavior.
• Design and implement mechanical modifications, part rework, tooling, fixturing and assembly solutions to improve chamber performance, reliability and serviceability.
• Support procurement, assembly, installation and qualification of chamber hardware such as faceplates, heaters, pumping components and gas delivery systems.
• Maintain chamber health by monitoring wear mechanisms, preventive maintenance requirements and overall system performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in semiconductor equipment or similar high‑tech environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software.
• Knowledge of thermodynamics, sheet metal design and material selection.
• Experience with manufacturing methods, GD&T and flow analysis.
• Understanding of Design for Excellence principles and PECVD chamber testing.
