Mechanical Simulation Engineer

About the role

Apple’s Hardware Tech team is seeking a Mechanical Simulation Engineer to lead finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) efforts that support module design for manufacturing and process development. The role involves collaborating across R&D and manufacturing to translate simulation insights into robust product designs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complex finite element analyses for structural integrity, stress distribution, fatigue life, and failure prediction.
• Conduct thermal‑mechanical coupled simulations to assess product performance under varied operating conditions.
• Select appropriate adhesive material properties and simulate dispensing patterns using CFD tools.
• Predict bond line thickness, coverage, and potential void formation, and optimize adhesive application processes.
• Validate simulation models through correlation with physical testing data.
• Develop new modeling techniques and contribute to failure analysis and process development.
• Stay current with advances in simulation methodologies and tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience, or Master’s with 5 years, or PhD with 3 years in simulation and modeling.
• Experience working in an R&D environment is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities.

Required skills

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
• Proficiency with ANSYS (Structural, APDL, Fluent), ABAQUS, STAR‑CCM+, COMSOL or similar tools.
• Hands‑on experience with 3D/2D CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, ProE/Creo.
• Programming skills in Python, C++, Fortran or comparable languages.
