Operating Theatre Technician

About the role

The Operating Theatre Technician supports the surgical team in delivering safe and efficient patient care within the operating theatre. Working closely with surgeons, nurses and other staff, the technician ensures that all equipment is ready, functional and compliant with safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Respond promptly to the surgical team’s requests and assist in daily theatre operations.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot all operating‑theatre equipment, including tables, video‑camera systems and related accessories.
• Conduct regular checks of equipment battery life, charge devices when not in use, and ensure video and photographic records are captured during surgery.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by following housekeeping procedures, mopping floors, disposing of waste and completing daily checklists.
• Support infection‑control and patient‑safety initiatives such as hand‑hygiene practice and fall‑prevention.
• Document activities according to audit standards and meet monthly key‑performance‑indicators.
• Resolve service or quality issues within 72 hours and foster positive relationships with patients, clinicians and vendors.

Required skills

• Operation and troubleshooting of Operating Theatre equipment.
• Maintenance of operating tables and battery management.
• Inspection and use of video‑camera systems for intra‑operative recording.
