Principal Design Enablement - Silicon Photonics

About the role

GlobalFoundries is hiring a Principal Design Enablement Research Scientist for PDK device design and research projects management, covering integrated opto-electronic circuit design, fabrication and characterization. The role involves application-oriented PDK work and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team from photonics and FAB.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimize silicon photonic devices, including passive and active devices such as balanced and high-speed photodetectors, for application-oriented PDK development.
• Independently carry out device characterization to verify performance and conduct device analysis with documentation.
• Provide technical support on PDK-related questionnaires.
• File patents on silicon photonic devices to protect AMF intellectual property.
• Perform other duties as assigned, depending on project progress and company goals.
• Carry out all activities safely and responsibly, supporting environmental, health, safety and security requirements.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in photonics, electrical engineering, physics or a related field.
• Practical knowledge of optical science and/or photonics technology.
• Preferred: practical knowledge of electrical and optical measurement of optical chip devices and systems.
• Preferred: strong oral and written communication, strategic thinking for experimental projects, ownership, multitasking and teamwork.
