Principal Engineer, Reliability

About the role

GlobalFoundries is a leading manufacturer of essential semiconductors, with manufacturing operations across the U.S., Europe and Asia. As Principal Engineer in reliability, you will work with fab and technology development teams to design reliability test structures, run reliability tests and analysis, carry out risk assessments and propose design rules.

Key responsibilities

• Support qualification plans, define test conditions, design hardware and software for special test requests, analyse test results and recommend improvements
• Run benchmarking exercises on reliability testing methodology, process qualification criteria and reliability design rules
• Design and characterise reliability test structures and define reliability layout rules and models
• Establish reliability test requirements for new and advanced technologies, and support customers in building reliability into their final products
• Improve reliability test cycle time and accuracy by refining test structures and methodologies
• Assess reliability risk for process changes, fab excursions and customer field failures
• Build models for HCI/NBTI/TDDB/PID/EM/BEOL TDDB failure mechanisms to support IC designers' reliability risk assessment
• Own the definition, documentation and maintenance of test procedures, findings and tools, and train reliability staff

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Engineering (Electronics, Materials or Physics)
• At least 7 years of experience in semiconductor reliability
• Basic reliability knowledge and understanding of reliability failure mechanisms, preferably in gate oxide, transistor device and/or back-end-of-line reliability
• Semiconductor process and/or device physics knowledge is a plus

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of Minitab, JMP, FMEA and 8D
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, teamwork and communication skills
• Able to work under tight project timelines
