Product Engineer 2 (Mechanical)

About the role

Illumina is hiring a Product Engineer 2 (Mechanical) to support product lifecycle activities, including new product introduction, product transfer and ongoing manufacturing operations. The role ensures product quality, yield and compliance through engineering evaluation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement, and works cross-functionally to drive process enhancements, cost optimization and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Support and drive product transfer into manufacturing, including golden unit builds, test setup calibration and GR&R plans
• Perform data trending and analysis, and apply FMEA, DOE and statistical analysis to improve quality and reduce costs
• Manage Engineering Change Requests and Notifications, including updates to work instructions and test requirements
• Support documentation such as engineering drawings, BOMs, test reports, assembly procedures and validation plans
• Lead failure analysis on recurring defects, apply SPC and monitor Cp/Cpk, and propose corrective and preventive actions
• Author ECRs, manage scrap analysis and material disposition, and maintain PLM integrity with traceability to requirements
• Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on DFM feedback and support builds at customer sites

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related experience
• Experience in life sciences, biotech or medical device environments preferred
• Strong analytical thinking, clear technical documentation and proven ability to work with suppliers and cross-functional teams

Required skills

• CAD proficiency (SolidWorks/Creo) with GD&T and DFMA knowledge
• FMEA, DOE, SPC and manufacturing processes
• PLM systems (e.g. Teamcenter) and ERP environments (e.g. SAP/Oracle)
• Advanced Excel and statistical tools (e.g. Minitab/JMP)
