Research Engineer – Accelerated Cleaning Development

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Research Engineer to design, develop, fabricate and validate an advanced chemical cleaning rig for pharmaceutical and chemical engineering applications. The role combines engineering design, fluid dynamics analysis, equipment integration and hands‑on experimental validation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise novel cleaning systems and associated equipment for pharmaceutical applications.
• Perform engineering calculations on fluid flow, spray cleaning, pressure losses, jet impingement and hydraulic performance.
• Create engineering drawings, specifications and fabrication requirements for custom components.
• Coordinate with vendors, workshops and fabricators for procurement, manufacture and assembly of experimental equipment.
• Lead technical discussions with stakeholders on system design, material and equipment selection.
• Plan and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate cleaning effectiveness and process performance.
• Collect, analyse and interpret experimental data and prepare technical reports.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Pharmaceutical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2–5 years of relevant industrial or research experience, preferably with process equipment design or pharmaceutical cleaning operations.
• Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, transport phenomena and material compatibility.
• Ability to work independently, manage projects and communicate technical information effectively.

Required skills

• SolidWorks, Fusion360 or AutoCAD for CAD modelling.
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for flow analysis (advantageous).
• Experience with pumps, piping systems, valves, spray nozzles and process instrumentation.
• Laboratory experimentation involving chemical handling.
• Vendor coordination and equipment fabrication.
