Research Engineer / Fellow – LLM/VLM, Media Comparison, AI Explainability

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Research Engineer or Research Fellow to lead a project developing an end‑to‑end pipeline for misinformation and disinformation protection, awareness and mitigation. The role focuses on real‑time systems using large language and vision models, media comparison and AI‑assisted explainability.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Principal Investigator Ian McLoughlin, Co‑PI Tong Rong and the research team to deliver all project milestones.
• Conduct state‑of‑the‑art research in LLM/VLM, develop and evaluate code, and produce academic publications.
• Provide solution‑ready demonstration code and interact effectively with customers and industry partners.
• Manage undergraduate research assistants where appropriate and liaise with collaborators at A*STAR, NTU, the UK and China.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; a Master’s or PhD is advantageous.
• Experience in academic publishing and ability to work independently.
• Strong critical thinking, self‑direction and continuous learning mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C and Python programming.
• Knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and HuggingFace.
• Experience with image processing and Linux‑based AI development environments.
