Research Fellow (Bioelectronics, Organic Semiconductors, Antimicrobial)

About the role

The Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS) at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to advance projects in bioelectronics, organic semiconductors and anti‑infective agents. The role involves designing and synthesising novel conjugated oligoelectrolytes for antimicrobial, bio‑imaging and drug‑delivery applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design and synthesize conjugated oligoelectrolyte materials for targeted applications.
• Analyse experimental data, prepare scientific communications, draft manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Participate in project operation, supervision of junior staff and overall management.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or Engineering with at least 2 years post‑doctoral experience.
• Strong background in chemical synthesis and purification of small molecules and polymers.
• Understanding of molecular designs of stable open‑shell organic radicals and their functionalisation.
• Experience designing near‑infrared absorbing molecules for organic photovoltaics, photodetectors, thermoelectric and photothermal devices.

Required skills

• Chemical synthesis and polymer purification.
• NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, HPLC.
• Optical spectroscopy, single‑crystal X‑ray diffraction, XPS, IR, TGA, DSC.
• Electron spin resonance (ESR) and SQUID magnetometry.
• Design of near‑infrared absorbing molecules for optoelectronic applications.
