Research Fellow – Centre of African Studies

About the role

The NTU‑SBF Centre for African Studies (CAS) at Nanyang Business School seeks a Research Fellow to advance high‑quality, policy‑relevant research on African economies, business, finance and development. Reporting to the Centre Director, the Fellow will contribute to CAS’s academic agenda, mentorship programmes and external engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research on African economic and business topics, targeting top‑tier peer‑reviewed journals (e.g., UTD24, FT50, Journal of African Business).
• Pursue competitive external research funding and build collaborations within NTU and with international partners.
• Present findings at internal seminars, international conferences and academic workshops.
• Organise and curate seminars, workshops and symposiums on African economies and development challenges.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing methodological guidance and mentorship.
• Assist the Centre Director in strategic development, partnership building and stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• PhD with a thesis relevant to African economies, business, finance, development or institutional transformation.
• Strong record of scholarly publications in reputable economics or business journals.
• Demonstrated ability to secure research grants and develop interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Experience mentoring junior researchers or students is preferred.
