Research Fellow / Engineer – Renewable Energy & Coastal Protection

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Research Fellow/Engineer to join the MCCS NATURE Project, focusing on renewable energy and coastal protection. You will develop and validate CFD models to study wave attenuation by natural habitats and design innovative floating breakwater systems.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct stochastic wave analysis and evaluate floating structure performance under varied sea conditions.
• Perform CFD simulations and finite‑element modeling to optimise floating breakwater designs and assess stability.
• Design mechanical connectors and integrate wave‑energy converters, tidal systems, and solar platforms into breakwater concepts.
• Plan and execute physical model tests in wave flumes, analyse experimental data and refine computational models.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers and presentations for academic and industry stakeholders.
• Support project management tasks, coordinate with external collaborators and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency with hydrodynamic modelling tools (e.g., ANSYS AQWA, OrcaFlex) and finite‑element software (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS).
• Experience in stability and mooring system design, and familiarity with data‑collection instruments.
• Strong analytical abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
