Research Fellow – In Vivo Neural Tissue Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary team led by Dr. Sing Yian Chew at NTU. The role focuses on in vivo neural tissue engineering, spinal cord injury (SCI) models, and the development of regenerative biomaterials.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute in vivo experiments using rat SCI models.
• Perform microsurgical procedures, including cell/scaffold implantation.
• Conduct animal behavioral and functional assessments.
• Carry out mechanistic analyses such as tract tracing, immunofluorescent and histochemical staining, confocal imaging, and RNA‑seq.
• Analyze data, interpret results, and prepare manuscripts for publication.
• Supervise and train junior researchers and assist with laboratory management.
• Engage in multidisciplinary collaborations within and beyond NTU.

Required profile

• Ph.D. and/or M.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or a related discipline.
• Published experience handling rodents and conducting functional/behavioral assessments.
• Demonstrated expertise in animal surgery, preferably SCI microsurgery in rodents.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Highly motivated, well‑organized, and capable of independent and collaborative work.
