Scientist / Senior Scientist (Monitoring & Evaluation)

About the role

The Scientist / Senior Scientist (Monitoring & Evaluation) position is based at the National Centre for Food Science in the Singapore Food Agency. The role covers food safety monitoring and biosurveillance, including programmes such as the Market Monitoring Programme, and supports the agency's mission and vision.

Key responsibilities

• Implement food safety monitoring and biosurveillance programmes to monitor and assess foodborne and zoonotic hazards in the food chain.
• Analyse and interpret data (data visualisation, statistical analysis, modelling, bioinformatics) to inform food safety measures and hazard exposure reduction strategies.
• Communicate findings to stakeholders through presentations, scientific publications and project reports.
• Contribute to scientific research and development projects internally and with local and international institutions.
• Handle administrative tasks such as procurement, preparing project proposals and agreements, and maintaining project documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (postgraduate degree preferred) in public health, life science/biochemistry, veterinary science or a relevant quantitative discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in a related field.
• Prior experience in public health/food safety surveillance or life science/biochemistry laboratory work is an asset.
• A strong record of peer-reviewed publications is an advantage.
• Detail-oriented, able to work in multidisciplinary teams or independently, and able to manage several priorities at once.

Required skills

• Basic experience with statistical or data visualisation software (e.g. SPSS, Power BI, Tableau).
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R and food chain models is a bonus.
