Senior AI Engineer, Smart Manufacturing AI

About the role

Micron is hiring a Senior AI Engineer (SMAI) at its Fab 10A site to join the team behind its AI and smart manufacturing transformation. You will help design, develop, deploy and support AI-powered applications that improve manufacturing operations across Micron's global fabs and assembly/test sites, working with data scientists, software engineers and manufacturing stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build end-to-end AI solutions: data ingestion pipelines, feature engineering, model training and inference, APIs, web applications and observability.
• Develop responsive front-end apps with React, Angular or Streamlit, backed by Python/FastAPI services, with strong type safety and test coverage.
• Support ML/AI models for structured and unstructured data, analytics solutions, and the integration of LLMs and agentic AI into manufacturing workflows.
• Integrate robotics platforms, AMRs, tool automation, control systems and the Micron MES ecosystem.
• Build containerized apps with Docker and deploy them via Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions) and support monitoring, drift detection, model evaluation and feedback loops.
• Apply responsible AI practices: input validation, prompt-injection prevention, PII/IP protection, model governance and audit logging.
• Support testing, debugging, documentation, installation and maintenance of AI and software solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or a related field; equivalent industry experience accepted.
• 2+ years building and shipping production web or AI applications end to end.
• Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, and ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Required skills

• Python and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
• SQL and relational databases.
• Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift and CI/CD practices.
• Working knowledge of GenAI: prompt engineering, RAG, LLM integration, agentic AI, model evaluation and responsible AI.

Preferred: semiconductor manufacturing, industrial automation or smart manufacturing experience, MLOps exposure, and familiarity with MES, Industrial IoT or equipment automation systems.
