Senior Counsellor / Counsellor (BEACON)

About the role

The University Counselling Centre at NTU is expanding its BEACON satellite service to provide accessible, short‑term mental health support for students. As a Senior Counsellor / Counsellor, you will deliver professional counselling to undergraduate and graduate students, conduct assessments, and contribute to campus‑wide wellbeing initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide short‑term counselling services (face‑to‑face or online) for mild mental health issues, academic stress and interpersonal challenges.
• Conduct risk and needs assessments, develop intervention plans, and produce assessment reports.
• Facilitate case formulation, present cases to the team, and refer students to external agencies when required.
• Guide less‑experienced BEACON counsellors on complex cases and support escalation of emergency situations.
• Collaborate with staff to identify at‑risk students and offer consultation.
• Identify gaps in counselling tools, propose culturally relevant improvements, and assist in developing data‑privacy protocols.
• Design and deliver wellbeing training programmes and annual wellbeing projects for the NTU community.
• Maintain professional, legal and ethical standards, ensuring client consent, confidentiality and data privacy.

Required profile

• Qualified mental health professional with experience in counselling university students.
• Proactive, resourceful and compassionate approach to student wellbeing.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and under supervision.
• Strong communication skills for case presentations, training delivery and stakeholder engagement.
