Senior Employment Counsel, APJ

About the role

As Senior Employment Counsel, APJ, you provide advice and strategic counsel to the People Organization and business leaders across multiple business units in the APJ region on a wide range of employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, organizational design, terminations, wage and hour, executive compensation and benefits, policy implementation, investigations, diversity and inclusion programming, employee classification and contingent workforce matters. You also manage administrative and legal claims against the company.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialized legal expertise in one or more areas of strategic importance to the client base.
• Lead the development of legal strategies for senior management at one or more units of a large global or regional business.
• Oversee routine legal responses during crises, internal investigations and government inquiries, and represent the organization before regulators and industry bodies.
• Own accountability for clients' legal needs and network to resolve matters beyond your direct expertise.
• Work with staffing and upper management to hire resources, including writing requisitions, interviewing candidates and making hire/no-hire decisions.
• Mentor junior legal team members and lead the development of strategy, policy and direction in your area of expertise.

Required profile

• Four-year or graduate degree in law, or a related discipline, or commensurate work experience and demonstrated competence.
• Typically 12+ years of work experience, preferably in commercial, general or specialty law or a related field.
• Preferred: state bar membership.

Required skills

• Business law, corporate law, labor law, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, regulatory compliance and risk management.
• Legal research, discovery and litigation support.
• Effective communication, results orientation, learning agility and digital fluency.

The position is full-time in Singapore with 25% travel; no shift premium and no relocation package.
