Senior Manager, Merchant Risk Operations, APAC (Relocation to Singapore)

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Senior Manager for its Risk Operations team. The role strengthens the global risk control strategy, manages a well-performing risk operation team and keeps portfolio risk aligned with the enterprise risk appetite. It involves leading the APAC Merchant Risk Operations team for Payments and relocating to Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Own end-to-end operational performance for APAC merchant risk operations, including SLAs, quality, loss metrics and customer impact.
• Oversee design and execution of merchant monitoring, investigation and escalation workflows across APAC.
• Partner with global legal, risk and compliance to implement new policies and control changes efficiently.
• Work with Product and Engineering to evolve risk tooling such as rules engines, case management, AI/LLM-based workflows and analytics surfaces.
• Champion automation and AI to reduce manual work and speed up decisions while keeping strong control standards.
• Drive key performance metrics (fraud ratio, chargeback ratio, etc.) in the MRM team to meet company OKRs.
• Manage stakeholders proactively across risk, compliance, commercial and product, and continuously seek operational excellence.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in payments, fintech or acquiring, with at least 3+ years in people management.
• Deep expertise in one or more areas: merchant credit and fraud risk (reserves and exposure), brand risk (AUP and compliance).
• Proven track record managing senior individual contributors in multi-location teams.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience; Mandarin is a preferred qualification.

Preferred qualifications

• Strong analytical and data skills, using dashboards and data tools to diagnose issues and measure impact.
• Experience building or scaling risk operations in a global fintech or top-tier payments company.
• Hands-on experience designing risk tooling or automation with Product/Engineering, including AI/ML/LLMs.
