Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist (Microbiology)

About the role

The public healthcare institution is looking for an experienced Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to lead its microbiology diagnostic services. You will oversee routine and advanced testing, drive automation initiatives and mentor junior staff in a fast‑paced clinical laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and interpret bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and molecular microbiology tests, including antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
• Maintain accurate reporting through the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and ensure timely result delivery.
• Support implementation, operation and troubleshooting of laboratory automation equipment.
• Manage reagents, consumables, inventory and uphold SOPs and documentation.
• Participate in quality assurance, external quality assessment schemes and compliance with BSL‑2+ safety standards.
• Provide training, supervision and competency development for junior laboratory personnel.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science or related field.
• Extensive hands‑on experience in a clinical diagnostic microbiology laboratory, including bacteriology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
• Familiarity with molecular microbiology, mycology or parasitology is advantageous.
• Experience with laboratory automation and LIS preferred.
• Strong understanding of quality systems, QA/QC and regulatory requirements.
