Senior Pharmacist, Pharmacy (2-Year Contract)

About the role

The National University Hospital (NUH) is hiring a Senior Pharmacist for a 2-year contract. The pharmacist provides a safe, efficient and timely dispensing of drugs and coordinates pharmacy activities within their area of responsibility in line with the pharmacy department's objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Review written orders (medication charts, records or prescriptions) to ensure doses are correct, no toxic reactions occur and orders are specific, contacting physicians on ambiguous or illegible prescriptions
• Fill prescriptions, explain directions for use to patients and inform other health professionals
• Inform prescribers of drug interactions, adverse reactions and contraindications
• Maintain shelf inventory of medicines and supplies according to security, environmental and shelf-life parameters, and inspect drug storage areas
• Follow pharmacy department policies, hospital management committee rules and external regulatory requirements
• Perform all aspects of medication supply to patients independently, and assist in acquiring special items with senior pharmacist approval
• Supervise pharmacy assistants, technicians and purchasing officers, and maintain drug and supply records in line with hospital and legal requirements (e.g., MOH standards, JCI)
• Take part in pharmacy education and development, give lectures, read journals and publish or present at least one paper per year
• Support clinical training for pre-registration pharmacists and students, represent the pharmacy on committees, and help set up new services, publish patient education material and set selling prices with senior pharmacist approval

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy
• Registered with the Singapore Pharmacy Council
• Hospital experience desired but not necessary
• Able to work independently, with good listening and communication skills and basic supervisory and management skills
