Senior Product Engineer (Electrical & Electronics)

About the role

Illumina is hiring a Senior Product Engineer (Electrical & Electronics) to support product lifecycle activities, including new product introduction, product transfer and ongoing manufacturing operations. The role ensures product quality, yield and compliance through engineering evaluation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement, and drives process enhancements, cost optimization and operational excellence across the transition from design to production.

Key responsibilities

• Support product transfer into manufacturing, perform data trending and analysis, and apply FMEA, DOE and statistical analysis to improve quality and reduce costs.
• Manage Engineering Change Requests and notifications, including updates to work instructions and test requirements, and support engineering drawings, BOMs, test reports, assembly procedures and validation plans.
• Lead component lifecycle management, define best practices for component selection and obsolescence, and develop embedded systems, electrical designs, schematics and PCB layouts.
• Drive design reviews, risk assessments, operational readiness reviews and embedded system testing, and coordinate supplier management for PCA fabrication and testing (ICT, FCT).
• Troubleshoot technical issues, perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions during NPI, production ramp-up and sustaining phases.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive improvements in NPI and sustaining processes.

Required profile

• Typically 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with a Master's degree, or a PhD without experience; equivalent experience also acceptable.
• Experience in FDA-regulated product development and life sciences/biotech preferred.
• Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Required skills

• Embedded systems, circuit theory and analog/digital electronics.
• PCBA design and solid understanding of ICT/FCT and PCBA manufacturing.
• Altium Designer or similar PCB design tools.
• EMC/EMI design and countermeasures.
• FMEA, 5 Whys, 8D, DOE and statistical engineering tools.
• BOM structuring and Engineering Change Management.
• Plus: LabView, Python, Visual Basic, SAP, PLM, FPGA (VHDL/Verilog) and FDA-regulated product development experience.
