Senior Product Engineer - Electrical Engineering & Embedded Systems

About the role

Illumina is hiring a Senior Product Engineer (Internal Title: Sr Product Engineer) responsible for supporting product lifecycle activities, including new product introduction, product transfer and ongoing manufacturing operations. The role ensures product quality, yield and compliance through engineering evaluation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement, and drives the smooth transition from design to production.

Key responsibilities

• Support product transfer into manufacturing, perform data trending and analysis, and apply FMEA, DOE and statistical analysis to optimise quality and reduce costs.
• Manage Engineering Change Requests and Notifications, including updates to work instructions and test requirements, and support documentation such as engineering drawings, BOMs, test reports and validation plans.
• Lead embedded systems integration, programming, verification and diagnostics during NPI, ramp-up and sustaining, and troubleshoot hardware, firmware, communication interfaces and programming issues.
• Develop embedded systems, electrical designs, schematics and PCB layouts, run design reviews and risk assessments, and coordinate embedded system testing at module and product level.
• Manage suppliers for PCA fabrication and testing (ICT and FCT), validate prototypes against EMC/EMI and safety standards, and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of embedded systems architecture, microcontrollers, peripheral interfaces and communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet).
• Experience in embedded system bring-up, programming, debugging and troubleshooting during NPI, ramp-up and sustaining.
• Excellent knowledge of circuit theory, analog/digital electronics, PCBA design, ICT/FCT and manufacturing processes.
• Advanced problem-solving techniques (FMEA, 5 Whys, 8D) and statistical tools (DOE); ability to lead technical discussions with manufacturing and service organisations.
• Experience with LabView, Python, Visual Basic, SAP and PLM is a plus; FDA-regulated product development and life sciences/biotech experience preferred.
