Senior Project Engineering Manager - HVDC

About the role

GE Vernova's Grid Systems Integration team is looking for a Senior Project Engineering Manager (PEM) to deliver large, complex HVDC projects that support the energy transition. The role is accountable for end-to-end engineering execution, from contract handover through commissioning and project closeout, and acts as the primary engineering leader and customer technical interface, coordinating global engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering execution of HVDC projects from launch through commissioning and handover, acting as the single point of accountability for safety, quality, schedule, cost, risks and customer satisfaction.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams across System Engineering, Primary Plant, Civil & Structural, Control & Protection, Studies, Mechanical, Telecom and Commissioning.
• Manage engineering interfaces with customers, partners, suppliers and contractors, drive technical alignment across global engineering centers and lead design reviews and technical governance.
• Ensure configuration management, design control and document management, and anticipate and mitigate engineering risks.
• Ensure compliance with HVDC reference designs, engineering standards, grid code requirements and project specifications, and lead engineering change management.
• Own engineering KPIs and coordinate with Procurement, Manufacturing, Construction, Site Management and Commissioning, supporting claims, variation orders and technical commercial discussions.
• Serve as the main engineering interface with utility customers, developers and transmission operators, leading technical workshops and executive customer discussions.
• Promote standardization, digital tools and automation, lead Return on Experience and lessons learned, and mentor engineering talent.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 15 years of EPC project engineering experience in power transmission.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale HVDC, FACTS or EHV transmission projects.
• Minimum 5 years in engineering leadership roles such as Lead Engineer, Engineering Manager or Project Engineering Manager.
• Strong understanding of engineering execution from design through commissioning.
• Ability to lead large, globally distributed teams, work in matrix organizations and communicate with customers and executives.

Required skills

• HVDC converter stations (LCC and/or VSC), power systems and system studies, control and protection systems.
• Primary plant, civil and structural engineering for substations, AC/DC grid integration, high voltage equipment and grid code compliance.
• Engineering configuration management.

Desirable: experience on HVDC EPC projects over USD 300M, global engineering centers and consortia, offshore wind and renewable projects, and multicultural team leadership. Travel of about 20-30% is required, and relocation assistance is provided.
