Senior Research Fellow – Microbiology

About the role

The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) seeks a Senior Research Fellow to lead a strategic programme focused on modulating the gut microbiome and biofilms for human health. The role combines cutting‑edge experimental work with data‑driven analysis in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific and operational leadership, co‑developing study objectives, work plans, timelines and experimental strategies with internal and external partners.
• Design, lead and execute end‑to‑end experimental workflows, ensuring rigor, reproducibility and alignment with project goals.
• Perform and oversee advanced data analysis, translating complex biological data into actionable insights.
• Offer hands‑on experimental support while mentoring junior researchers and fostering a high‑performance research culture.
• Engage with academic, industry and partner stakeholders to align research outcomes with translational and societal impact objectives.

Required profile

• PhD in Biological Sciences or a closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years of research experience in microbial ecology, molecular biology, microbiome or biofilm studies.
• Demonstrated experience in research/project management with knowledge of biostatistics, data analytics and intellectual‑property considerations.
• Proven ability to work independently, solve complex scientific problems under tight timelines and deliver high‑quality results.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management skills with flexibility to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong leadership and influencing abilities to build productive collaborations.
