Senior Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

Join Boku’s Innovation team to design and build a new suite of payment infrastructure products from the ground up. You will work in a high‑autonomy, small team delivering greenfield services that power global commerce.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build production‑grade Java/Spring Boot services with high throughput, low latency and 99.99%+ availability.
• Implement RESTful, gRPC and event‑driven APIs for payment initiation, callbacks, reconciliation and settlement flows.
• Develop core payout, card processing and FX components, including a payout engine and AI‑driven treasury orchestration.
• Ensure fault tolerance with circuit breakers, retries, idempotency and comprehensive observability.
• Set up CI/CD pipelines, Docker/EKS containerisation and code‑quality gates (SonarCloud, SAST).

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Java and Spring Boot expertise.
• Proven experience building high‑throughput, high‑availability payment or financial services systems.
• Solid understanding of payment architecture such as idempotency, reconciliation and settlement.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and messaging systems (Kafka or RabbitMQ).
• Familiarity with container deployment (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS) and CI/CD tooling.
