Senior Systems Engineer - Semiconductor Equipment

About the role

Applied Materials is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration, validation and optimisation of complex semiconductor fabrication equipment. The role spans electrical, mechanical, controls, software and process engineering domains and is based in Bangalore, India.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and execute complex projects across electrical, mechanical, physics, algorithms, controls and software disciplines.
• Define system architecture, subsystem interactions and equipment interfaces, and translate customer and market needs into detailed system, hardware and software specifications.
• Lead technical design reviews and drive engineering decisions throughout product development.
• Develop subsystem specifications, interface requirements and system documentation.
• Support integration, assembly, calibration, qualification and final product testing, and design validation plans and test procedures.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across electrical, mechanical, software, process, manufacturing and field environments.
• Drive improvements in reliability, manufacturability, serviceability and overall system performance.
• Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams on component selection and technology enhancements.
• Maintain engineering documentation, design records and Bills of Materials (BOMs), and ensure compliance with quality, safety and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering or a related discipline.
• 7-15 years of experience in Systems Engineering, semiconductor equipment, automation systems or complex electromechanical product development.
• Preferred: experience with semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment, leading technical reviews and cross-functional teams, and knowledge of reliability engineering and product validation.

Required skills

• Systems engineering: system architecture, requirements engineering, integration and validation, root cause analysis.
• Controls and automation: motion control, EtherCAT, industrial automation and control systems.
• Electrical and mechanical: schematics, gas panel design, P&ID interpretation, fluid and gas delivery systems.
• Component engineering: valves, regulators, mass flow controllers, sensors, actuators and transducers.
• Verification and documentation: V&V, test planning, engineering specifications, BOM management.
