Senior Telecommunications Engineer

About the role

NHG is looking for a Senior Telecommunications Engineer to manage, operate, maintain and plan the lifecycle of the hospital's telecommunications infrastructure. The role covers IP-PBX systems, VoIP services, operator consoles, contact centre systems, voice gateways and related platforms, ensuring high availability, reliability and cybersecurity of voice communication systems that support clinical operations, emergency response, security and business functions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operation, monitoring and maintenance of telecommunication systems, including preventive maintenance per manufacturer recommendations.
• Troubleshoot service disruptions and system faults, analyse recurring incidents and implement corrective and preventive measures.
• Maintain asset inventory, licensing records and system documentation, and ensure backup and recovery procedures are in place.
• Lead telecommunications projects from planning through implementation and commissioning, and coordinate migrations, expansions and upgrades.
• Develop technical specifications and evaluation criteria for procurement, and liaise with vendors, service providers, contractors and user departments.
• Monitor vendor performance and escalation handling, and provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and technical officers.
• Review technical proposals, engineering changes and maintenance strategies, and support audits and quality improvement activities.

Required profile

• Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a diploma with at least 8 years.
• Experience managing enterprise telephone systems, IP-PBX or Unified Communications platforms, and hands-on project, upgrade and vendor management experience.
• Experience in healthcare, critical infrastructure or mission-critical environments preferred.

Required skills

• Voice communication systems: VoIP, SIP trunking, voice gateways and telecommunication networking.
• Knowledge of telecommunications cybersecurity principles.
• Preferred: contact centre platforms, operator consoles, emergency communication systems, and drafting technical specifications.
