Senior Unix System Administrator – Critical Payment Services

About the role

The Senior Unix Engineer will manage and maintain the Unix environment that underpins BCS’s critical online payment services such as FAST, Giro, CTS, PayNow, SGQR, TFR and eGIRO. The role ensures continuous availability, security compliance and optimal performance across production, disaster‑recovery and test environments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform system administration and routine maintenance on Sun Solaris and Linux servers in production, DR and test zones.
• Apply operating‑system security hardening, patch management and manage password/certificate lifecycles.
• Design, implement and test disaster‑recovery plans; conduct regular DR switchover exercises.
• Schedule and verify system backups and database archiving to guarantee data recoverability.
• Provide Level‑3 technical support, incident diagnosis and problem resolution in line with SLA targets.
• Coordinate change and release activities, create deployment packages and follow formal change‑management procedures.
• Maintain a comprehensive configuration database of hardware and software assets.
• Monitor capacity, performance and conduct tuning to sustain high‑performance service delivery.
• Document middleware platforms, infrastructure components and support UAT environments.

Required profile

• Extensive experience (5+ years) in Unix/Linux system administration, preferably with Sun Solaris.
• Strong knowledge of security hardening, patch management and certificate handling.
• Proven track record in disaster‑recovery planning, backup strategies and DR testing.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
• Familiarity with change, release and configuration management processes.
• Excellent documentation skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
