Software Engineer, Desktop

About the role

ActAI is building AI‑native desktop applications that help users manage everyday tasks with minimal prompting. As a Desktop Software Engineer you will own the behavior of our cross‑platform desktop product, ensuring reliability, performance and real‑time collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain cross‑platform desktop applications using Electron.
• Create responsive, scalable UIs for real‑time collaboration with React or similar frameworks.
• Implement desktop‑specific features such as file‑system access, native notifications, auto‑updates and deep linking.
• Integrate AI‑powered capabilities (chat, agents, assistance) via backend APIs.
• Optimize startup time, memory usage and overall runtime performance; profile and reduce Electron overhead.
• Manage large local state, message history and ensure smooth real‑time updates (messages, typing indicators, presence).
• Maintain stability across macOS and Windows environments.

Required profile

• Proven software engineering experience with production‑grade applications.
• Hands‑on experience building Electron applications.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience with React or comparable UI frameworks.
• Solid understanding of desktop application lifecycle and IPC communication.
• Familiarity with local storage solutions such as SQLite, IndexedDB, and filesystem handling.
• Experience with WebSockets or other real‑time transport mechanisms.
• Strong debugging and performance profiling skills.
