Software Engineer Intern

About the role

Grab is Southeast Asia's leading superapp, and its Commercial Systems team builds and operates software and data systems supporting commercial operations, including Salesforce and applications, integrations and workflow solutions. As a Software Engineer Intern, you will contribute to engineering projects in one of five tracks: Backend Engineering, Full-Stack Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science or AI Automation. The internship is fully on-site at Grab's One North office in Singapore, full-time from January to May/June 2027, reporting to an Engineering Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop applications, services, data pipelines or automation solutions aligned with your track.
• Work with Product Managers, Designers and Engineers to clarify requirements and turn them into scoped technical work.
• Take part in code or design reviews and apply feedback to improve quality, maintainability and security.
• Document technical designs, application logic, system components or data flows.
• Investigate bugs, performance issues and production incidents and help resolve them.
• Use approved AI tools for code exploration, testing, documentation or analysis, and review their outputs.

Required profile

• Pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field.
• Working proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, C++, JavaScript, Swift or Kotlin.
• Understanding of data structures and algorithms, and familiarity with software development practices including Git and writing or running tests.
• Ability to explain your technical approach and record it in code reviews or documentation.
• Experience engaging with AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity and workflows.

Required skills

• Backend: Go, Java/Spring, Django or Flask; PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Full-stack: semantic HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and a framework such as React, Vue or Angular.
• Data engineering: data modelling, SQL, ETL, data warehousing or Spark.
• AI automation: experience using AI tools in code or design reviews.
