Software Engineer Intern (Jan to Jun 2027)

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is recruiting a Software Engineer Intern in Singapore for a 6-month placement from January to June 2027. The intern designs, develops and deploys production-ready capabilities for the Spend Cards and Issuing platform, such as card lifecycle management, spend controls, transaction visibility, APIs or customer-facing card experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Create workflow diagrams, identify dependencies and define success criteria (latency, accuracy, cost)
• Build and integrate Cards and Issuing features across backend, APIs and frontend
• Add automated testing and set up observability dashboards with logging, metrics and alerts
• Deploy the capability to production and validate it with real users
• Take part in standups, sprint reviews and retrospectives, and collaborate with Operations, Finance and Infosec
• Contribute to code reviews, testing and documentation, and deliver bi-weekly updates
• Follow the onboarding: buddy assignment, tool setup, domain walkthroughs, monthly check-ins and a final review at 24 weeks

Required profile

• Current student in Singapore studying towards a formal tertiary qualification
• Commitment to a 6-month full-time placement starting in January 2027
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and desire to learn with Airwallex

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python with strong software engineering fundamentals
• Ability to design and implement AI-driven systems that automate workflows
• System design and clean, production-grade code
• Preferred: Kotlin, TypeScript or JavaScript; MLOps, vector databases, LangChain, Kafka, AWS/GCP/Azure
