Software Engineer (Java & SQL)

About the role

NCS, an AI tech services company and subsidiary of the Singtel Group, is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Software Engineer with Java and SQL expertise to join its growing engineering team in Singapore. You will design, develop and maintain robust software applications while keeping code quality high and following best practices, working with cross-functional teams to meet technical standards and business goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and deploy Java-based applications and services using industry best practices and coding standards.
• Design and optimise SQL queries and database schemas for efficient data retrieval and storage.
• Analyse technical requirements and turn them into well-structured, maintainable code.
• Review code and give constructive feedback to maintain code quality.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, finding root causes and applying effective fixes.
• Work with product managers, architects and other engineers on scalable solutions.
• Take part in the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through testing and deployment.
• Document code, technical specifications and architectural decisions.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to write clean, efficient and well-documented code.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java, with a strong grasp of object-oriented principles.
• Advanced SQL, including query optimisation and database design.
• Relational database management systems.
• Version control such as Git.
• Software testing and quality assurance practices.
• Preferred: Spring, Hibernate, RESTful APIs, design patterns, Agile or Scrum, CI/CD tools, cloud platforms or microservices.
