Staff Mobile Engineer, Foundation

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system for global commerce, is hiring a Staff Mobile Engineer on its Mobile Foundations team in Singapore. You will lead the technical direction of the native mobile platform across iOS and Android, shaping the architecture, shared libraries and tooling that help product squads ship faster and more reliably. This is an in-office role, five days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the shared mobile architecture across navigation, state management, networking, offline strategies, error handling, modularisation and platform-product boundaries.
• Own critical capabilities such as design system components, analytics, feature flags, experimentation, authentication, payments and observability, keeping them stable, documented and easy to adopt.
• Improve security, reliability and performance through anti-tampering, certificate pinning, crash reporting, logging, metrics and tracing.
• Track platform metrics such as crash-free sessions, ANRs, app start-up time, bundle size and network performance, using data to set priorities with product teams.
• Own and improve mobile CI/CD pipelines and release workflows, reducing build times and test flakiness.
• Drive cross-squad technical initiatives and raise the bar for mobile engineering through design reviews, mentoring, documentation, automation, hiring and community building.

Required profile

• 8-10+ years building native iOS or Android apps, including at least 3+ years at Senior or Staff level.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven track record of leading cross-team initiatives and evolving mobile architectures.
• Strong focus on code quality, testability and automated testing.
• Ability to influence without authority and to make pragmatic trade-offs.
• Comfortable working across time zones with a globally distributed team and in the office five days a week.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in one platform: Swift, SwiftUI, Combine and async/await on iOS, or Kotlin, AndroidX, Jetpack, Coroutines and Hilt on Android, with commercial knowledge of both.
• CI/CD experience with tools such as GitHub Actions or Bitrise.
• Preferred: mobile design systems, analytics, experimentation, feature flags, observability tools such as Crashlytics or Sentry, payments/fintech experience, mentoring and open-source contributions.
