Staff Research Scientist – AI Alignment

About the role

Google Asia Pacific is seeking a Staff Research Scientist to lead regional AI safety research and drive AI alignment initiatives across the APAC region. You will bridge cutting‑edge academic breakthroughs with core engineering execution to ensure next‑generation AI models are robust, trustworthy, and safe.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a foundational research agenda in AI alignment and safety.
• Lead collaborations with APAC academic institutions, government bodies, and external stakeholders.
• Integrate safety breakthroughs, evaluation protocols, and alignment methodologies into core engineering frameworks and frontier AI models.
• Work closely with regional engineering teams, global research pillars, and cross‑functional partners to navigate fast‑moving technology policy and regulatory landscapes.
• Publish research findings and contribute to the broader AI safety community.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in AI safety research and AI alignment.
• Proven ability to lead high‑impact research partnerships and coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong record of publishing research in top venues.
