Staff Software Engineer, Lending Platform

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its lending platform. You will architect, design and build secure, scalable systems that power the lending platform and enable fast, seamless and compliant credit experiences, owning the technical direction of lending services, APIs and distributed systems for enterprise clients. This is an in-office role, five days a week in the Singapore office.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design reviews, shape systems architecture and mentor engineers while raising the bar for code quality and engineering practices.
• Build resilient, high-throughput services that perform reliably at global enterprise scale, supported by strong testing, observability, monitoring and operational discipline.
• Partner with Product, Risk, Compliance and other engineering teams to evolve the platform and support expansion into new financing products.
• Own the technical foundations of secure, scalable lending services and APIs for enterprise clients.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including modern engineering practices, CI and quality engineering.
• At least 2 years in a technical leadership role, mentoring engineers and defining engineering strategy.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and object-oriented programming, with proven backend systems experience.
• Proven track record of high-throughput, low-latency, highly available distributed systems at scale.
• Preferred: experience in financial services, lending, payments or credit products, and building SaaS platforms.

Required skills

• Java or Kotlin with Spring or Spring Boot, or comparable backend technologies.
• RESTful APIs, domain-driven design and event-driven architectures in production.
• GCP or AWS, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Observability tooling such as Splunk, Grafana or Prometheus.
